Albert Sperger Obituary

Albert “Al” Joseph Sperger, age 90, of Eau Claire, passed away on Saturday, May 19, 2018, surrounded by his family. Born on March 30, 1928, in Farm Hill, rural Elmwood, to Albert and Mary Sperger. Al graduated from Durand High School and entered the US Air Force part of the Strategic Air Command (SAC), stationed Rincon, Puerto Rico. Al married Mary Elizabeth (Beth) O’Connell on December 28, 1950 in El Paso, WI. and spent 65 loving years together. Beth was the true love of his life. Together they raised two children, Dan and Katy. Al was deeply adored and loved by his children and grandchildren, Alex and Zachary. His family meant everything to him. Al served as a State Patrol Officer for the State of Wisconsin for 13 years. He then became a Civil Defense Director for the State of Wisconsin and was stationed in Eau Claire. During retirement, he volunteered for the American Red Cross for 10 years. Al and Beth spent winters in Apache Junction, AZ for 23 years. They shared many memories at the Shafer Farm, where he was known as the “Wagon Master”. He truly looked forward to spending his time at the farm where he could be with his family and friends. Al was a lifelong, devoted member of St. James the Greater Catholic Church and was very involved in their events as well as the Knights of Columbus. Al loved the Green Bay Packers and the Wisconsin Badgers. He is preceded in death by his wife, Beth; parents; siblings, George, Caroll, Joanne, Lynn, Bernie, and Bernard (Bud). The family wishes to express their deepest thanks to the many caregivers who supported and loved Al in the last two years of his life.
