Arne Peterson Obituary

Rev. Arne E. Peterson, age 85, of Eau Claire. Arne was born on March 2, 1932 in Spruce Hill Township, Douglas County, MN to Alvin and Esther Peterson. He graduated from Augustana Theological Seminary (Rock Island, IL) in 1958 and served parishes in Barstow, Knoxville, Watauga, Sandwich, Rockford, and Harvard, all in Illinois. On August 13, 1955 in Iron Mountain, MI, Arne married Phoebe A. Granquist. They were married for 62 years. As his idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis progressed, Arne and Phoebe would celebrate their anniversary each month with a card and a photo Arne made that reminded him of the special moments they had shared together over the years. After retirement, Arne was active in the community, including work with Feed My People and Habitat for Humanity. He served on numerous church committees at First Lutheran (now Spirit Lutheran) and was an active member in the Illinois Synod. Arne enjoyed working creatively whether it was building something, wood carving, or writing poetry. He loved telling stories, spending time with family, and doing projects at the lake cabin. After retirement, he and Phoebe traveled often within the United States and overseas, the last trip being to Egypt and Jordan in 2011. Survivors include his wife Phoebe; three sons Greg, Steve (Beth Lynch), and Erik (Gail Olson); grandson Karl Peterson (Melissa); great-grandchildren Mason, Liam, Isabella, Kennedy, Emersyn, and Everly; and sister, June England of Minneapolis, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Pearl Schmidt. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 24, 2018, at Spirit Lutheran Church with Pastor Jim Ahlquist officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be from 9:15 - 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, at Spirit Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be written to Spirit Lutheran, Chippewa Valley Free Clinic, Community Table, or a charity of your choice.
