Birdie J. Manke, 97, of Eau Claire, died Monday, February 13, 2017, at Grace Woodlands in Eau Claire. She was born on February 12, 1920, in Eau Claire, a daughter of James and Myrtle (Lorentz) Ward. Birdie married Charles W. Manke on April 15, 1939, at Grace Lutheran Church in Eau Claire. She was a member of Spirit Lutheran in Eau Claire. Birdie had a wonderful sense of humor. She was a homemaker that was a giver. Birdie was always willing to offer her hospitality or help out in any way she could. She enjoyed baking, and spending time (fishing, hunting, camping and boating) with her family at Nelson’s Lake during the summer. Her winters were spent in Texas. Birdie is survived by her husband, Charles; two daughters, Judy (George) Patrow and Janet Bjerke both of Eau Claire; five grandchildren, Doug (Tina Falk) Bjerke, Dan (Sherry) Bjerke, Sheila (Tom) Guelzow, Anthony (special friend, Tammy) Strader, and Tammy (Don) LeDoux; seven great-grandchildren; and one great great-grandson. She is also survived by other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Jeanette Parisot and Virginia Dresel; one brother, Maurice Ward; and two sons-in-law, Douglas Bjerke and John Strader Memorial Services will be held at Noon on Friday, February 17, 2017, at Spirit Lutheran, 1310 Main St. in Eau Claire with Pastor David S. Wall officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Friday, at the church. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Forest Hill Cemetery in Eau Claire.
