Bonnie Brandl Obituary

Bonnie M. Brandl, 93, of Eau Claire, died Friday, December 8, 2017, with family by her side. Bonnie was born on March 24, 1924, in the family’s farmhouse in Arkansaw, WI, to Galen and Mary (Youngman) Myers, the second of eleven children. She graduated from Arkansaw High School in 1941. After high school, she worked as a ship welder in Long Beach, CA, and at the United Rubber Company in Eau Claire. On June 16, 1945, she married Lorne J. Brandl at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Durand, WI. Bonnie and Lorne were married for nearly 70 years and raised three children. Bonnie was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Immaculata Women’s Group, Catholic Woman’s Club, and Pine Meadows Golf Club. For over 20 years, she was also a member of the Ladybirds Bowling League, where she was the treasurer of the league. Bonnie was an active volunteer throughout her life in various community organizations to include: The Food Pantry and Meals on Wheels. Once her children were raised, she reentered the workforce. With her strong organizational skills and a keen sense for business, she became manager for two local branches of the Fanny Farmer Candy Company in Eau Claire for 15 years. Her love of travel led her from coast to coast in the United States and across Canada. She had extended visits to Mexico, the Caribbean, Australia, New Zealand, Europe, Iceland, Philippines, Thailand, Japan and China. Bonnie is survived by her son, John F. (Susan) Brandl of Eau Claire; two daughters, Mary Jo (Edward) Bennis of Washington and Lynne (Michael Barrett) of Washington; two grandchildren, Traci (Matthew) Guzzo and Kati (Peter) Jacobson; three great-grandchildren, Hudson, Graysen and Vivian Guzzo; two sisters, Cleo Hein of St. Joseph, MI, and Dorothy Novak of Waverly, MN; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lorne; six brothers, Edward, Gordon, Galen, Lyndon, Bernard and Father John Myers; and two sisters, Elaine Carroll and Verona Schlosser. A life is like a garden. Perfect moments can be had, but not preserved, except in memory. We will lovingly remember Bonnie at a Mass of Christian Burial at Noon on Wednesday, December 13, 2017, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 1712 Highland Avenue in Eau Claire, with Father Don Meuret officiating. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to Noon, on Wednesday at the church. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Calvary Cemetery in Eau Claire. The family would like to thank the staff at Orchard Hills Assisted Living and Dove Healthcare West, as well as Mayo Clinic Health System-Home, Health & Hospice for their exceptional and loving care and support.
