Bonnie M. Jeffers

Bonnie Mae Jeffers, age 69, passed away on Wednesday, May 9, 2018, in the comfort of her own home, surrounded by family, after bravely fighting cancer for the past year. Born on January 6, 1949, to Fred and Alice (Solem) Kersten, Bonnie grew up in Eau Claire and spent much of her childhood at the family cottage on Lake Wissota. She graduated from North High School where she discovered both a love for music and a passion for public health. Bonnie played piano and sang in a local band in high school, and went on to earn a degree in Dietetics from Stout University. She successfully worked as a dietician for 40 years, retiring from the Eau Claire City Health Department Women Infant and Children (WIC) program in 2011. Bonnie met the love of her life, Ed Jeffers, at Fourniers Ballroom when she was just 18 years old and he 16. They married on July 1, 1972, and spent 45 happy years together. They raised two daughters, Angela and Kristi, and enjoyed spending summers camping around the state of Wisconsin. Adoring her three grandsons was her favorite pastime. Bonnie loved many, many things. Among them were gardening, Elvis, baking, quoting Seinfeld, enjoying her morning coffee in absolute silence, bird watching, finding a deal at TJ Maxx, Fun Fridays, her book club, playing cards, a good wine on a sunny day, touring historic homes, buying gifts for others on holidays, Saturday morning coffee group, and the anticipation of discovering a new story when entering a bookstore. Above all, Bonnie loved her family. She is survived by her husband, Ed; two children, Angela (Levi) and Kristi (Dan); two brothers, Dan Kersten and Gary Kersten; three grandsons, Liam, Rory and Reuven; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives. She is preceded in death by her parents, who are waiting for her with 3 o’clock coffee and half a cookie. The family would like to thank the staff of Mayo Clinic Home Health & Hospice for their support and loving care. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 14, 2018, at Spirit Lutheran Church, 1310 Main St, Eau Claire, with Pastor Jim Ahlquist officiating. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. and continue until the time of the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the GCS Project (gcsproject.org) dedicated to GCS Carcinosarcoma research.
