Carol Emma (Severson) Bartosh, 93, of Eau Claire, passed away on Thurday, March 29, 2018, at Dove Healthcare, West Eau Claire. She was born on April 8, 1924, to Martin and Ella (Peterson) Severson in Urne, Wisconsin. She was baptized at Lyster Lutheran Church and attended grades 1-8 in a one-room schoolhouse. Carol’s family moved to Eau Claire in 1937, and she graduated from Eau Claire High School in 1941. After graduation, she worked at Hobbs Supply Co. and then at the Eau Claire Ordnance Plant as a secretary. She later became a bookkeeper at Schumacher Motor Express. She married her soldier, Carl, on March 23, 1944, at Grace Lutheran Church. As they raised a family of five active kids, Carol worked side-by-side with Carl in the family business, Bartosh Cleaners, doing all the bookkeeping for the business and working, as needed, in other capacities. After selling the business in the 1980’s, Carol and Carl became the top advertising sales team at the Lutheran Digest magazine. She finally retired at the age of 82. 2018 marked 81 years of membership at Grace Lutheran Church for Carol, where she taught Sunday school and played the organ for chapel services for about 35 years. A remarkable pianist, she had taught herself to play and loved sharing her gift whenever she could. She was also active in women’s organizations at Grace as well as with the Memorial HS Band Parents. She is survived by her son, Richard (Noreen) of Wisconsin Rapids; daughters, Cynthia Simonson of Houston, TX, Debbie (Hector) Rodriguez of Green Bay, and Susan Olson (Brian) of Minnetonka, MN. She also leaves behind nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Bonnie, in 2016; by her husband, Carl, in 2009; as well as by her parents, four sisters, and two brothers. A celebration of her life will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 4, 2018, at Grace Lutheran Church, 202 W. Grand Ave, with Pastor Dean Simpson officiating. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. and continue until the time of the service at the church. Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery. Sincere thanks to the staff at Dove Healthcare West for the caring and kindness they showed Carol, and to the hospice program for all the support they provided.
