Cecil West Obituary

Cecil W. West, 91, of Eau Claire, died on Monday, January 26, 2015, at his residence. Cecil was born on January 12, 1924, in Disco, WI, to George and Zylphia (Barr) West. In 1942, Cecil joined the US Navy and completed his tour in the South Pacific in 1946. After his discharge he began working at Uniroyal. He was employed there for over 45 years, until his retirement in 1987. On May 2, 1953, he married Ruth Hoiensahl at First Lutheran Church in Eau Claire. He loved spending time at the cottage on Lake Wissota and hunting and fishing at the deer shack near Winter, WI. He was an avid Packer and Badger fan. Cecil is survived by his son, Craig (Sue) West of Eau Claire; daughter, Julie (Mike) Flom of Eau Claire; grandson, Jake Mentch; granddaughter, Emily Mentch (Colin Davison); and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 46 years, Ruth; brothers, Lloyd and Lyle West; sisters, Ione Buczkowski, Ila Ellingstad, Irene Solberg, and June Heagney. Funeral Service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 14, 2015, at First Lutheran Church, 1005 Oxford Ave. in Eau Claire with Pastors Amy Odgren and Lowell Halvorson officiating. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. at the church. Military Honors will be conducted by VFW Post 305. Burial will be at a later date at Lutheran Church Cemetery in Eau Claire. Memorials are preferred to Freedom Honor Flight, PO Box 505, La Crosse, WI 54602.
