Douglas DeGrasse Obituary

Douglas “Doug” H. DeGrasse, 80, of Eau Claire, passed away Thursday, July 16, 2015, at home surrounded by his family after a brief battle of malignant melanoma. Doug was born on December 10, 1934, in Eau Claire, to Harold and Lorraine (Jensen) DeGrasse. The family moved to Foster, when Doug was young and he graduated from Osseo High School in 1952. After high school, he was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he served from 1955 to 1957, spending most of that time in Korea and Japan. Doug married Patricia Bowe on April 23, 1960, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Eau Claire. He was employed at Uniroyal for 30 years. After his retirement from Uniroyal, he became an independent truck driver for T.M.B. Trucking for over 20 years. In 2000, Doug and Pat made their home on Red Cedar Lake, where the whole family enjoyed fishing and boating. Doug also enjoyed hunting and snowmobiling, and most of all, attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. Doug is survived by his wife of 55 years, Pat; four children, Mike (Sandy), Bob, David (Polly) and Lori (Glen) Kadrlik; grandchildren, Brandon (Jessica) DeGrasse, Brianna (Andrew) Bushendorf, Eric (Deb) Kadrlik, Mitchell DeGrasse, Maggie Kadrlik and Max DeGrasse; and two great-granddaughters, Ella and Sydney Kadrlik. He is also survived by his brother, Bruce (Becky) DeGrasse; sister, Sharon (Hugh) Scanlon; sister-in-law, Betty Bowe; brothers-in-law, Bill (Deb) Bowe and Tom Bowe; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Arnold and Mary Bowe; and brother-in-law, Jerry Bowe. The family would like to thank the nurses and aides from Mayo Home, Health & Hospice and the Oncology Doctors from both Eau Claire and Rochester Mayo Clinics. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 21, 2015, at St. Olaf Catholic Church, 3220 Monroe St. in Eau Claire, with Father Paul Hoffman officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass, Tuesday at the church. Inurnment will be in Lakeview Cemetery, with Military Honors conducted by Brackett American Legion Post 550.
