Edward “Pete” Eckhoff, 89, of Eau Claire, passed away on Friday, August 1, 2014, at Orchard Hills Assisted Living in Eau Claire with his family by his side. Pete was born on March 15, 1925, in Eagle River, WI to Edward H. and Bonlyn (Baker) Eckhoff. He proudly served his country as Private First Class in the Army Air Corp. and was honorably discharged in October of 1945. Pete married Jean McCormick on June 10, 1950, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Prentice, WI. He worked for 40 years at the Wisconsin Telephone Company and continued to volunteer his time with the Telephone Pioneers after retirement. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and always enjoyed being outdoors. He was a great husband, father and grandfather, and will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Pete is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jean; three daughters, Debra (Larry) King of Prattville, AL, Terri (Karl) Dinger of Eau Claire, and Mary Eckhoff of Bloomingdale, IL; son, Thomas (Lucie)Eckhoff of Chetek; fourteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Timothy; and brother, John Eckhoff. A Memorial Service will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 6, 2014, at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home, 814 First Ave., in Eau Claire with Father Tom Krieg officiating. Inurnment with military honors will take place at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner, WI.
