Emily Christensen Obituary

Emily Sue Christensen, age 78, formerly of Eau Claire, passed away on May 2, 2018, at Glencoe Regional Health Services – Long Term Care in Glencoe, MN. Emily Sue was born on October 24, 1939, in St. Louis, MO, to the late Benjamin and Dorothy (O’Donnell) Hodge. She graduated from Normandy High School in Normandy, MO, in 1957. Emily Sue met Fred while she was teaching English and Fred was teaching History at Addison Trail High School. They married in St. Louis, MO, on August 8, 1964. They adopted their daughter, Anne Michelle, in 1968, and their son, Erik Hans, in 1970. Emily Sue volunteered at her children’s schools and was a leader of the Campfire Girls Troop. She was always the last one to say goodbye to her kids and the first one to greet them when they came home. Emily Sue enjoyed being out on the water, whether it was boating, water skiing, or swimming. She and her family spent a lot of time on Lake Altoona and Lake Wissota. She liked picnicking during their outings. Emily Sue enjoyed parties of any kind, especially costume parties. She and Fred were members of card clubs and a volleyball league. They enjoyed their Sunday rides on their motorcycle. Emily Sue had a deep connection to animals. She loved having cats, specifically Siamese cats. She also liked dogs, wolves and fox. She enjoyed learning about wildlife through her books. Her grandchildren brought much joy to her life, they were the apple of her eye. Emily Sue obtained a Master’s Degree in Counseling from UW – Stout later in life. She took hold of her life long disease of diabetes, which enabled her to live to the age she did. She was awarded a metal in recognition of living with diabetes for 60 years by the Diabetes Association. Emily Sue is survived by her daughter, Anne (Shawn) Lentsch of Hamburg, MN; son, Erik Christensen of Cook, MN; grandchildren, Riley and Reese Lentsch; brother, Ben Hodge of Chicago, IL; sister, Ragini Michaels of Seattle, WA, and Mary Brauninger of St. Louis, MO; nephew, Mark Brauninger; niece, Suzie Dardas; and many other family and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Frederick “Fred” Christensen; and her parents. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Noon on Tuesday, May 8, 2018, at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home, 814 1st Ave, Eau Claire, with Father George Stamm officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will take place at a later date in Lakeview Cemetery, Eau Claire.
