Gilbert Statz Obituary

Gilbert P. Statz, 90, lifetime resident of Eau Claire, died Friday, June 12, 2015, at Dove Healthcare Nursing & Rehab. He was the sixth child of fifteen, born to Wolfgang and Elizabeth (Dohm) Statz. Gilbert served in the U.S. Army, in Occupation Forces in Japan, from 1949 to 1950. Gilbert married Eleanor Nix on September 21, 1950, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Eau Claire. Gilbert was a home builder in Eau Claire and Chippewa Falls for 40 years, before retiring in 1985. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed spending time with his wife, family and friends at his cabin on Round Lake. Gilbert was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and American Legion Post 53. Gilbert was a good man and was admired by all who knew him. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Gilbert is survived by his wife, Eleanor of 64 years; his children, Thomas (Karen) Statz of Tucson, AZ, James (Ann) Statz of Eau Claire, and Jeanne (Eric) Harris-Flom of River Falls, WI; six grandchildren, Tommy (Julie) Statz, Sarah (fiancée Wil Nash) Statz, Laura (Aaron) O’Connell, Paul (Abby) Statz, Kevin Statz and Ben Harris; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Martha, Joanne and Jeanette; and brothers, Ralph, Wilbert, Vince and William. He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, James Harris; sisters, Elizabeth, Mary, Angeline and Ann; and brothers, George, John and Louis. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 17, 2015, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 1712 Highland Ave., in Eau Claire, with Father Don Meuret officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the Mass at the church. Inurnment will be in the Resurrection Chapel in Calvary Cemetery, Eau Claire, with Military Rites conducted by American Legion Post 53. Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral & Cremation Services is serving his family. The family of Gilbert would like to thank the staff of Dove Healthcare-West for their compassion and care shown to Gilbert during his stay.
