Jean Mary Welsh-Erdman

Jean Welsh Erdman, 87, of Altoona, passed away on Thursday, January 26, 2017, at Sacred Heart Hospital. Jean was born on March 21, 1929, in Eau Claire, to Oscar and Bernice (Behres) Nelson. She attended St. Patrick’s Grade and High School graduating with the Class of 1947. Jean was employed at L.G. Arnold, Inc. from 1947-1953; at Luther Hospital from 1979-1984. She also worked as a church secretary at Sacred Heart Parish for Fathers Timmerman, Eiden and Hillesheim at various times before retiring in 1991. Jean married Thomas W. Welsh on May 2, 1953. Tom passed away on June 22, 1980. On July 10, 1986 she married LaVern C. Erdman of Altoona. He passed away on March 21, 2015. She was a member of Sacred Heart Parish and St. Anne’s Society, having served as treasurer for six years. For 12 years, she taught CCD classes to 2nd graders, preparing them for their first communion. Jean is survived by one daughter, Teresa Lessard of Eau Claire; three sons, William (Katherine) Welsh of Ladysmith, Patrick (Linda) Welsh of Bloomer and Joseph Welsh of Jim Falls; a step-daughter, Holly (Scott) Emery of Colfax; and a step-son Tod Erdman of Mondovi; ten grandchildren, Timothy (Krista), Nicholas (Amy), Jennifer, Rebecca and Jacob (Nichole) Welsh, Jackie Ann, Nicole Sewilo, Lacey (Mike) Wensel, Timothy (Jessica) Emery and Jeff Emery; eight great-granddaughters, Samantha Welsh, Mikayla Carey, McKenzie and Kaicee Dachel, Sevana Sewilo, Jazmine Wensel, Allie McCann, Carmen Welsh; four great grandsons, Devin McCann, Domenic Wensel, and Andrew and Landon Walters; one great granddaughter, Lyvia Welsh; two step grandchildren, Ava and Ryker Emery; one step-great-granddaughter, Brooklynne Emery; one brother, Stephen (Carol) Nelson of Moscow, ID; one brother-in-law, John (Diane) Welsh of Eau Claire; two nieces and two nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, LaVern Erdman; her first husband, Thomas; and her parents. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 31, 2017, at the WEST CHAPEL location of Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral & Cremation Services, 1405 N. Clairemont Ave, Eau Claire, with Father George Thayilkuzhithottu officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
