Leni S. Gran, 93, of Eau Claire, passed away on Monday, July 6, 2015, at Oakwood Villa in Altoona with family by her side. She was born on March 1, 1922, in Frankfurt, Germany to Heinrich and Minna (Geb) Binder. Leni lived and worked in Germany during WWII and had two children, Horst in 1942 and Marion in 1948. While living in Germany, Leni had numerous jobs including making war supplies for the Germans. She enjoyed dancing and spending time with her friends and family. She came to the United States in 1967 with her daughter, and married Lawrence G. Gran on March 16, 1971, in Alma Center. While Lawrence worked the farm, Leni became an avid home maker in Northfield and later moved to Eau Claire in 1976. She was a member of Hope Luthern Church in Eau Claire. Leni always made taking care of others her first priority. She took care of her daughter, Marion through her cancer illness until her passing on December 11, 1989. Leni was devoted to helping raise Marion’s son, Mitchell before and after Marion’s death. Leni lead an extraordinary life. She took great pride in being a homemaker. She had a love and talent for cooking, baking, and always enjoyed fresh flowers. She was very fond of her miniature poodles and shared that love for dogs with Mitchell. She touched each and every life she came in contact with and was an influence to many. She had a strong German exterior, but a heart of gold and will always be “Oma” to many. Leni is survived by one son, Horst Binder of Frankfurt, Germany; grandson, Mitchell Flood; step-daughter, Gail (Gary) Knutson; step-son, Gary (Kathy) Gran; three, step-grandchildren; nine, step-great grandchildren; special friends, Linda Wilman and four legged friend, Titan.
