Lozamae Dietzler

Lozamae Rivette Dietzler, 95, of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, passed away on September 20, 2015 surrounded by loving family at her home in Eastridge Estates. She was born in Leonville, Louisiana on April 16, 1920 to Placide and Lucille (Frederick) Rivette. Lozamae grew up on a cotton and sweet potato farm. She worked from a young age picking cotton and sweet potatoes. She went to a grade school in Leonville through the 8th grade, when she quit to help her ailing mother at home. At the age of 21 or 22, she moved to New Orleans and worked at Lane’s Cotton Mill. They were weaving cloth for khaki uniforms for the war. When she was 23 years old she went with her sister on the train to Saginaw, Michigan to visit her brothers who lived there. The night she arrived, she met her future husband, Ray Dietzler, who was in the Merchant Marines, at a dance in Saginaw, Michigan. Lozamae and Ray were married on December 29, 1943. Their first home was on the SS S.T. Crapo, docked in Detroit harbor where Ray was ship keeper for the winter. They eventually moved to Ray’s hometown of Cadott, Wisconsin where they started raising their five children. After 10 years in Cadott, they moved to Eau Claire where she met a lot of great people, especially the neighbors on Jupiter Avenue. Lozamae is survived by her sons John (Carol Carrillo) Dietzler of Broomfield, CO; Robert (Margi) Dietzler of Chandler, AZ; her daughters Phyllis Dietzler (Jim Marvin) of Littleton, CO; Janet (Mark) Nelson of Eau Claire; and Sue Dietzler (Lee Cohen) of Denver, CO. She is also survived by her two grandchildren Joe Fellenz of Vail, CO and Erin Dietzler of Phoenix, AZ. She was preceded in death by her husband Ray (2010), her parents and her 12 brothers and sisters. Friends may call from 4-6:30 PM Wednesday, September 23, 2015, at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home, 814 First Avenue, Eau Claire. There will be a Rosary said at 6:30 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 AM on Thursday, September 24, 2015 at St. Olaf Catholic Church, 3220 Monroe Street, Eau Claire with Father Paul Hoffman officiating. Visitation will also be one hour prior to Mass on Thursday at church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Eau Claire. Laissez les bons temps rouler!
