Lucille Bartelt Obituary

Lucille D. Bartelt, 89, of Eau Claire and formerly a long time resident of Janesville, went to Heaven to meet Jesus on Sunday, October 5, 2014, after a long journey with Dementia. She leaves a legacy of faithfulness to God that will not be forgotten. Lucille was born on March 17, 1925, in Shumway, IL, a daughter to Bill and Alta (Moutrey) Arnold. She graduated from Stewardson Community High School in 1943. Lucille later followed her older brother to Zion, IL, to attend Great Lakes Bible Institute, where she pursued a degree in Christian Work. She graduated in 1950, and was selected as the Class Speaker because of her “scholastic record, spiritual devotion and faithfulness in practical ministry” during her years there. In 1955, Lucille followed her dear friends and ministers, Rev. and Mrs. Otto Lemberg and their family to Janesville, WI, where they pastored the Janesville Assembly of God. She began to fulfill her ministry calling, working with the children and youth of the church. Lucille married the love of her life, Lou Bartelt on January 13, 1961, and together they held each other up as many health issues followed both of them for the rest of their lives. But to those who knew them, they were not defeated by them. In 1966, their dream of having a family became a reality with the adoption of their much prayed for daughter, Leni. Lucille taught the children of the church for nearly 30 years and never let her blindness keep her from living a wonderfully full life. She loved gardening, baking, sewing and hosting nearly weekly dinners in her home. There was always an apple pie in the freezer, ready and waiting to be taken out and thrown into the oven for an impromptu visit with friends. After Lou’s passing in 1996, Lucille moved to Eau Claire, to be near her daughter and family. Being a grandma was the highlight of her last years. She lived with Leni and her family for the last eleven years as she struggled with Dementia. Earth said good-bye to an amazing daughter, wife, mother and grandmother, but Heaven welcomed a “good and faithful servant” and that is what this life on earth is about. Lucille is survived by her daughter, Leni (Tom) Cramer; four granddaughters, Alissa, Morgan, Paige and Adrian; two sisters, Waneta Kessler and Verna Berroyer; as well as many nieces and nephews. Lucille’s husband, Lou; parents; and brother, Delbert preceded her in death. Visitation will be from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 9, 2014, with a Celebration of Lucille’s Life starting at 6:30 p.m. at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home, 814 First Ave. in Eau Claire. Funeral Services will be held at Noon on Friday, October 10, 2014, at Turning Point Church, 2618 Mt. Zion Ave. in Janesville, WI, with Pastor Dan Taylor officiating. There will be a visitation one hour prior to the service, Friday, at the church. Interment will be in Milton Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Janesville, WI.
