Mary Jane Ambers

Mary Jane Ambers, age 93, of Altoona/Eau Claire, WI, died Sunday, June 14, 2015, at Country Terrace Assisted Living in Altoona. Mary Jane was born October 15, 1921, in Eau Claire, WI, to Alvel and Gerda (Regli) Rogstad. She was a graduate of Eau Claire High School. After graduation, Mary Jane became a telephone operator for “Ma Bell” (AT&T) and worked there for twenty eight years, achieving a manager position. During this time, she met Jerry M. Ambers and they married on June 11, 1944, at Grace Lutheran Church in Eau Claire. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers and had been a very active volunteer at The Chippewa Valley Museum. Mary Jane loved to golf and bowl and kept it up until she was about eighty six years old. She was a home grown flower enthusiast and her gardens showed it. She was a fan of Teddy Bears and Bells and had a wonderful collection of both. Mary Jane enjoyed making all sorts of crafty items and loved her sweets. Cookies and chocolate candies were favorites and when asked where they all went, she responded with, “the staff must have eaten them.” Mary Jane is survived by three children, Bradley L. (Patti) Spanaway of WA, Mary Kay (Michael) Christiansen and David A. (Kathie) Ambers, all of Eau Claire; six grandchildren, Michael, Jerry Lee, Teri, Nathan, Patricia and Kayla; seven great grandchildren, Alan, Coty, James, Daniella, Amber, Diego and Tessa; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alvel and Gerda (Regli) Rogstad; and her husband, Jerry. A Memorial Service will take place at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 18, 2015, at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home, 814 First Ave. in Eau Claire, WI, with Pastor Michael Wollman officiating. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. The family would like to say “thank you” to the Country Terrace Staff and St. Joseph’s Hospice for the fantastic love and care they gave their mother.
