Mary "Toni" Gohla

Mary “Toni” Gohla, May 30, 1936-May 21, 2015 Mary “Toni” Gohla 78, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, May 21, 2015, at her home in Eau Claire. She was born Mary Antoinette Wisdorf in Sherburne, MN on May 30, 1936, to Anton and Myrtle (Larson) Wisdorf. She graduated from Sherburne High School as Salutatorian of her class and attended The College of St. Catherine in St. Paul, MN. On June 16, 1956, she married Bernard J. Gohla in Mankato, MN. As married women at the time were not allowed to continue at St. Catherine she finished her degree in Nursing at Hamline University in St. Paul, MN. Bernie and Toni lived in the Twin Cities, St. Cloud, MN and Mason City, IA until they settled in Eau Claire, WI in 1966 where they raised their three children Stephanie, Gregory and Pamela. Toni was a parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church from 1966 to the present and continued as a lector at Mass until the present time. Toni worked as a Registered Nurse for many years both in private practice for Dr. Michael Gonzaga and at Sacred Heart Hospital. After retirement she continued as a volunteer at Sacred Heart. Those who knew her, know her real passion was local theatre. Over the years she was in numerous productions, too many to mention. In recent years whatever she was in was always going to be the “last one”. But in 2013 she did “Seussical the Musical” and 2014 “Steel Magnolias” playing the part of Ouiser. We always believed there was going to be one more production around the corner. Toni was very active until the end, enjoying her daily walks across the Lake Street Bridge, working out at “Curves”, taking various classes at the Eau Claire Library, attending all local theatre productions and always looked forward to her dinners with the “South Pacific Girls”, a group of 4 who had acted together decades ago and still met for dinner regularly. Toni is survived by her three children, Stephanie Jauert of Spring Lake Park, MN, Greg Gohla of El Cajon, CA, and Pam (Jeff) Gunderson of Portage, WI; four grandchildren, Alyssa Jauert, Lauren Jauert, Kelly Gunderson and David Gunderson; and very special friend Carl Casperson. Toni was preceded in death by her parents; ex-husband Bernie Gohla; brother Richard and partner Jim Tout.
