Patricia Giese Obituary

Patricia R. Giese, 89, of Eau Claire, died peacefully on Monday, April 7, 2014, at Mayo Clinic Health System Hospital in Eau Claire, surrounded by her loving family. Patricia was born near Thorp, WI, on March 27, 1925, to John and Anna (Velchek) Burke. She was raised and attended school in Boyd, WI. Upon graduation from high school, Patricia worked various jobs with the federal government, retiring from the Social Security Administration in 1988. While working at the Veteran Administration, in Eau Claire, she met the love of her life, Gerald E. Giese. They were married on June 18, 1949, in Boyd, and eventually settled in Eau Claire. They were celebrating their 65th Wedding Anniversary this year. Patricia was devoted to her family and to her Catholic Faith. She and Gerald were charter members of Immaculate Conception Parish in Eau Claire. Patricia’s greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her husband, Gerald; daughters, Barbara (Richard) Barrickman, Janet (Fred) Negus, Ann Giese (Skip LaDousa); sons, John (Ginger), Dennis, Peter, Paul (Michele), and William (Lieske) Giese; grandchildren, Mike (Jessica) Barrickman, Katie (Troy) Taylor, Carolyn (Aaron) Dammen, Rachel Cleasby, Jessica, Claire and Jack Negus, Laura, Amanda, Nick, Grace, Lucas, Jonah, Eleanor and Simon Giese; great-grandchildren, Lauren and Connor Dammen, Devin and Andrew Barrickman, and Calvin Taylor; sister-in-law, Dorothy Burke; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Billie (Mac) McGivern and Ethel (Keith) Calkins; brothers, George and Jack (Frances) Burke; sister-in-law, Audrey (Gerald) Hetzel; and brother-in-law, Eugene Giese. Pat had the ability to make every one of her children feel special, and with eight children that was quite a feat. To this day, we each think we were her favorite. She treasured her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was proud of her Irish heritage, making sure that it was noted before the Norwegian she married into. The luck of the Irish was in her. She loved to travel with Jerry, especially to Hawaii, where they enjoyed multiple trips. She was the queen of the crossword puzzle, an excellent card player, especially bridge and 500. Thank you to the staff on the Medical-Surgical floor, Dr. Beckerman and Dr. Jim Deming of the Palliative Care Service at Mayo Clinic Health System-Eau Claire for their excellent care. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 12, 2014, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 1712 Highland Ave. in Eau Claire, with Father Don Meuret officiating. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the Mass on Saturday at the church. Burial will take place at Forest Hill Cemetery in Eau Claire. Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral & Cremation Services is serving her family. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Feed My People Food Bank, 2610 Alpine Road, Eau Claire, WI 54703, or the choice of the donor.
