Patrick McInnis Obituary

McInnis, Patrick Joseph, age 89, was born in Eau Claire, WI, on October 15, 1928, and died in Edina, MN, on May 6, 2018. He graduated from St. Patrick's High School, completed Waltham Watchmaking and Elgin Jewelers programs. He served in the 2nd Armored Division. During the Korean War, he was stationed in Germany, where he maintained tank periscopes and optical equipment. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree from St John’s University and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of Minnesota. He reinvented his career many times. He served 20 years in city management in Arizona and Minnesota. As the first City Manager of Burnsville, he led innovative, urban planning, parks and public safety programs. As a real estate developer, investor and owner, Patrick co-developed and owned many successful projects. In “retirement” Patrick co-founded a New York City high end antique business serving an elite clientele for 30 years. Patrick lived a full and interesting life. He was generous, optimistic, enterprising, resourceful, innovative and always successful. He was a masterful negotiator, his motto “not a problem.” He had impeccable taste and was always well dressed. A gentle and accepting man, he was devoted to his family. His grandchildren adored his playfulness. Energetic and quick he played tag with his grandkids and won, well into his seventies. Patrick worked almost every day of his life until 83. Generous and gracious, he hosted many family dinners and vacations. He was known for tipping everyone from the doorman to the chef and more. Patrick is survived by children: Martha McInnis (Brian Knutsen), Ellen McInnis, Molly McInnis (Andrew Mowery), Patrick McInnis, Jr., Amy McInnis Mayer; grandchildren: Connor and Kirk Knutsen, Malcolm McInnis, Jared Mowery, Lucy and Frances Mayer; sister, Elizabeth “Betty” McInnis; and many beloved cousins and relatives. He was preceded in death by siblings: Mary Jane Garnett, Sr. Catherine McInnis, Margaret McInnis, Eileen Bruer and Fr. Thomas McInnis; parents, Catherine and Thomas McInnis; and former wife, Lucy McNulty. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Sisters of the Order of St. Benedict, 104 Chapel Lane, St Joseph, MN 56374. Minnesota memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 17, 2018, from 5 to 7 p.m., with remarks at 6 p.m., at Washburn McReavy Funeral Home, 5000 West 50th Street (50th and Hwy. 100) Edina, MN. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, May 23, 2018, at 11 a.m. with visitation one hour prior to the Mass at St. Patrick’s Church, 322 Fulton Street, Eau Claire, WI, with Fr. George Thayilkuzhithottu officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by American Legion Post 53.
