Roger Wibel Obituary

Roger O. Wibel, 82, of Eau Claire, died unexpectedly at his home on Thursday, November 20, 2014. He was born in Mondovi, WI, on September 14, 1932, the son of Albert and Olga (Raaum) Wibel. Roger's first marriage was to Sylvia Viergutz and they were blessed with two children. On May 9, 1970, Roger married Ruby Harms. Roger and Ruby shared 44 years of marriage and were blessed with three more children. Roger had many jobs in his younger years. Later on, he owned a business with his brother Clifford, and then he drove semi-truck for several years before retiring. He served in the U.S. Navy and was very proud of his service to our country. He served during the Korean War and he always had many entertaining stories to tell about his time spent overseas. Roger liked to spend time with his family. He enjoyed family vacations, camping, fishing, reading, and fixing things. When his kids were young, the family had a hobby farm at their home in Menomonie. Roger and Ruby enjoyed gardening as well. Roger was a "jack of all trades" who could fix almost anything. Over the years, he had completely remodeled 3 homes with his wife, Ruby. He really enjoyed working with his hands and after finishing one thing, he always had another "project" to get to. He also was an avid supporter of the Special Olympics and of his son Brice, who is a participating athlete. Roger was always proud of his children and their accomplishments, and always made sure that they knew it. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He was always the funny guy and he loved to joke around and make people laugh. In recent years, even as his health began to decline, his sense of humor was always still there. Roger is survived by his wife, Ruby; children, Weston (Mary) Wibel, Debbie (Jerry) Kolden, Kelvin (Renee Holmquist) Wibel, Brice Wibel (Mary G.), Nadine (James) Welch, and Bryant (Nicole Dean) Wibel; 15 grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Arlene Ehlert and Violet (Bud) Goss; and half-brothers, Ronald and Larry Wibel. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Hazel Hayden; brothers, Richard Wibel, Clifford Wibel, and Kenneth Wibel; and grandson, James Welch III. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 25, 2014, at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home, 814 First Ave., Eau Claire, with Pastor Rolf A. Nestigen officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday, November 24, 2014, from 4 to 7 p.m. and again one hour prior to the service on Tuesday, at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will be at Prairie View Cemetery, Village of Lake Hallie.
