Steven Smiskey Obituary

Steven Dean “Smitty” Smiskey, 66, of Eau Claire, died on Sunday, January 31, 2016, at his residence. He was born in Eau Claire on January 14, 1950, a son of Donald and Alice (Behnke) Smiskey. Steve graduated from Memorial High School with the Class of 1968. Steve married Mary K. Bohlinger of Chippewa Falls, in February 1970. She preceded him in death on March 4, 1980. Steve worked at National Presto before he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in April 1969. He was stationed in Pensacola, FL, where he served for four years. Steve attended CVTC, where he received his training in welding. He worked at Phoneix Steel and American Phoneix. Steve married Tracy Reidt of Eau Claire, on June 6, 1987. They later divorced. Steve enjoyed golf, deer hunting and cruising on his motorcycle. He was an original member of the Free Rider Motorcycles Club. Steve is survived by his mother, Alice of Eau Claire; sister, Sandy (Richard Hera) Smiskey of Eau Claire; brother, Larry (Lisa) Smiskey of Eau Claire; nephew, Jacob (Courtney Anderson) Smiskey of Sarona, WI; niece, Easton Smiskey of Eau Claire; great-niece, Aurora Alice Smiskey of Sarona; step-niece, Kayla Olson of Eau Claire; step-nephew, Nathan Olson of Eau Claire; aunt, Gloria Berg of Eau Claire; uncle, Bill (Shirley) Behnke of Lawrenceville, GA; and many cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Donald; wife, Mary K. Smiskey; grandparents, William and Minna Behnke and Robert and Mary Smiskey. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, February 8, 2016, at Lutheran Church of St. Mathew, 1915 Hogeboom Avenue in Eau Claire, with Pastor Steven D. Rutter officiating. Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, February 7, 2016, at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home, 814 First Avenue in Eau Claire, and again one hour prior to the service Monday at the church. Steve will be laid to rest, next to Mary, in Forest Hill Cemetery in Eau Claire, with Military Honors conducted by American Legion Post 53.
