Twila Walker Obituary

Twila R. Walker, 89, of Eau Claire, died peacefully on October 11, 2017, at Care Partners Assisted Living Facility on Birch Street in Eau Claire, surrounded by her family and friends. Twila was born on July 12, 1928, a daughter to Peter and Ruth (Mathwig) Rohlfs in the township of Red Cedar near Eau Claire. Her family moved to Eau Claire shortly after the Great Depression and Twila graduated from Eau Claire Senior High School in 1946. Two years after her graduation, she married the love of her life, Lawrence “Bud” Walker, on October 17, 1948, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Eau Claire. They started their lives together in Eau Claire and have been residents ever since. Twila and Bud had one child, Mark. Twila was mostly a stay-at-home mom during Mark’s early years and took an active part in his activities. As time went by, Twila was employed by several companies, including WBIZ, Tupperware, Kerm’s Grocery on Water Street, and Stucky Chiropractic. Her last employment was at Mega West where she worked as a product demonstrator in the store’s bakery department. Twila trusted in the Lord her entire life. She was a dedicated member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church where she sang in the choir for over 50 years, was active in Ladies Aide and Women’s Circles, and baked cookies for the annual cookie walk. Twila was a “hugger” and enjoyed being with people and having a good time. Her spirit and character endeared her to everyone that met her. Her knitting club and card club were an important part of her social calendar. Twila and Bud spent many years together at their trailer in Tucson, Arizona during the winter and Camp Brigadoon in Cumberland, Wisconsin, during the summer. She enjoyed fishing with her husband and grandsons and also sitting around an evening campfire with family and friends. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Lawrence; son, Mark (Cheryl); grandsons, Joe (Tammy), Ben (Katie), and Michael (Liz); great grandchildren, Ava, Charlie, Addy, Sadie and Nora; sisters-in-law, Barb Feirn and Jane (Bryan) Schwark; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends, and a special dog named Buddy. Twila was preceded in death by her parents; her sister Viola (John) Qualheim; brothers, Vernon and Peter (Doris) Rohlfs; sister-in-law, Ginny Rohlfs; and nephew, Mike Rohlfs. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, October 16, 2017, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 601 Fall St, Eau Claire, with Pastor Carl Kangas, former Pastor of Our Redeemer, officiating. Visitation will be at 9:30 until the time of service at the church. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Eau Claire. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the church or organization of the donor’s choice. The family wishes to express their thanks and sincere gratitude to the wonderful staff of Care Partners and St. Joseph’s Hospice for their excellent and compassionate care. The family also extends sincerest gratitude and thanks to Kathi Neevel for her compassionate care for mom and her professional advice to the family.
