Angeline Erickson Obituary

Angeline “Angie” Mary Erickson died peacefully on March 22, 2019, at the age of 95, surrounded by her children at The Classic at Hillcrest Greens in Altoona, WI. Angie Erickson (née Celentano) was born on January 7, 1924, to Charles and Mary (Pompie) Celentano in Joliet, IL. In 1930, during the Great Depression, Charles moved the family to Minong, WI, where they ran a hotel and restaurant at the local railroad station. After graduating from Minong High School, Angie attended and graduated from the University of Wisconsin - Superior with a degree in teaching. She taught history at both Spooner and Superior High Schools, retiring in 1985. Angie met her husband Dick on a blind date in 1950. They married in 1950 and raised their three children in Superior, WI. Together they built the beloved family cabin in the early 1960’s on Leader Lake in Wascott, WI. Angie and Dick loved the northwoods and spent time together fishing, dancing, canoeing, cross-country skiing, playing cards, and enjoying time with friends and family. In 1967, Angie joined the Philanthropic Educational Organization’s (PEO) Superior Chapter E. Following Dick’s death in 1985, Angie settled in Eau Claire, WI. There, she became a member of the Eau Claire Chapter CH of PEO and the Elks Lodge 402, as well as a passionate volunteer at the L.E. Phillips Senior Center, where she taught bridge and helped others with their taxes. Angie was also very devoted to her grandchildren, who lovingly called her Nanee, and she spent much of her retired life with family. In her later years, Angie loved nothing more than days spent at the family cabin, where she would rise early, make a pot of coffee, play solitaire at the kitchen table, and listen to the loons. Angie is survived by her children, Sally Strozinsky, Richard (Lisa), and James (MaryAnne); grandchildren, Jennifer Strozinsky, Aaron (Mike) Demenge, Max (David) Erickson, D.J. Erickson, Molly Erickson, Jimmy Erickson, Charlie Erickson, and Tony (Rhiana) Erickson; great-grandchildren, Matthew and Allison Dougherty, Logan and Avery Demenge; her sister, June Sullivan; as well as several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by husband, Richard “Dick” Erickson; and her brothers, Charles, Louis, Alfred, and Daniel Celentano. A visitation will be held from 1:30pm – 4:00pm, Monday, April 1st, 2019, at The Classic at Hillcrest Greens, 2455 Sawgrass Place, Altoona. A Celebration of Life will take place at 2:00pm at The Classic. The family would like to thank the staff at The Classic at Hillcrest Greens and Mayo Hospice for all of their loving care.
