Arlene Spaeth Obituary

Arlene Marion (Smith) Spaeth, 97, of Altoona, WI passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 14, 2019 surrounded by her loving family. Arlene was born in Eau Claire on January 24, 1922, a daughter of Martin and Theresa (Lassek) Smith. She graduated from St. Patrick’s High School in Eau Claire. She married Roy Spaeth on August 31, 1940 in Eau Claire. Arlene and Roy raised their family in Eau Claire and owned and operated Roy’s Supermarket and our Own Hardware Store for many years. Arlene was an avid golfer, bowler and traveler, but she most enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren in their various sports and academic activities. Arlene was a charter member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, a member of Immaculata Society and of the Ladies Auxiliary of Sacred Heart Hospital. Arlene is survived by her five children, Janet Marcon, Sandie (Tim) Roach, Ken (Mary) Spaeth, Cheryl (Mike) Corneiller and Kathy (Don) Holtman; grandchildren, Christina Kochendorfer, Eric Marcon, Michael Marcon, Lisa Meier, Brian Roach, Kevin Roach, Jenny Thompson, Ryan Corneiller, Ashley Corneiller, Joseph Holtman, Marcus Holtman and Tristan Holtman; seventeen great-grandchildren; sister, Delores McFaul; brother, Art Smith; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy; parents; sister, Vivian; and son-in-law, John Marcon. The family would like to thank Dr. Randy Casper, her physician for many years, and Mayo Clinic Home Health & Hospice for the care and comfort given in her final days. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Noon on Monday, March 18, 2019, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 1712 Highland Ave. in Eau Claire, with Father Francis Thadathil officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to Noon prior to the Mass at the church. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Calvary Cemetery in Eau Claire.
