Bernard Trettin Obituary

Bernard “Bernie” F. Trettin, age 82, of Eau Claire, passed away on Thursday, March 2, 2017, at his home surrounded by his family. Bernie was born on September 15, 1934, to Bernard and Welhemina (Wendt) Trettin. He graduated from Eau Claire High School with the Class of 1953. Bernie married Bonnie Pahl on September 22, 1975 in Eau Claire. He worked as a commercial roofer for many years. Bernie was a member of Truax Congregational United Church of Christ since 1996, serving as the Deacon for 16 years. He was a member of many organizations, including the North River Front’s Neighborhood Association serving as both President and Vice President, Selective Service Board, DECI, Housing Authority, and the International Falls Festival. He volunteered his time to enrich the lives of children in Eau Claire by organizing a free backpack program, fundraising a trip to see a Minnesota Twins game, and starting a free meal program. He enjoyed gardening, the Packers and Brewers, softball, hunting and fishing, travelling, and spending time with his family. Bernie is survived by his wife, Bonnie; sons, Kenneth Minto of Eau Claire and John Minto of Weyerhaeuser, WI; daughters, Kim (Mark) Vetter of Henderson, NV, and Debra Blystone of Almond, WI; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister, Kathleen Welk of Menomonie; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Larson, Lucille Meservey and Joyce Pahl of Eau Claire; and many nieces, nephews and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Elizabeth Stewart; mother-in-law, Sarah Werlien; father-in-law, Ernest Pahl; brothers-in-law, John Pahl, Don Welk, Arthur Stewart, Herb Larson, and Russel Meservey. Memorials may be directed to Mayo Clinic Health System Hospice at Mayo Clinic Health System, Community Development, P.O. Box 2060, Eau Claire, WI 54702. The family would like to thank Sarah Roseth from Mayo Clinic Health System Hospice for the loving care she gave Bernie. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 11, 2017, at Truax Congregational United Church of Christ, 1008 S 50th St, Rt 2, Eau Claire, with Rev. David Stratton officiating. Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Burial will take place in Rest Haven Cemetery, Eau Claire.
