Carol Ohm Obituary

Carol Ann Howes Root Ohm was born on February 7th ,1943, in Norwich, England. Born to Sybil Howes, a radar operator in the middle of WWII. Sybil took Carol into a bomb shelter within hours of her birth and went back to work running radar against German Luftwaffe two days later. Carol’s father, Jonathan Jackson, a British sailor, never returned from WWII. Being raised post WWII, in a war torn country, gave Carol a strength that most people wouldn’t understand. She was a rabble-rouser and an athlete in her youth, taking the Bronze Medal for throwing the Javelin in England’s national competition. Carol followed in her mother's footsteps, joining the Women’s Royal Army Corp, becoming a Lance Corporal by the age of 21. Carol and her best friend, Lorraine, met two US Air Force men (James and Sid), married and moved to the U.S. in 1968. Carol met and became friends with the Cartman family. The families are still as close as any two families could be. Carol married Richard Ohm in December of 1989 and he remained by her side until the day she joined our Heavenly Father on Sunday, March 29th, 2020, at home with her loving family at her side. Carol will be remembered as someone that would help anyone, and go above and beyond for her friends and family. Her grandchildren will remember a caring, loving, and fun Grandma. Carol is survived by her husband, Richard; 4 children, Donna Lorraine Hamler (Mark Held), Tracey Thorgerson (Jody), James Root, Jr. (Lyndia), and Robert Root; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and one on the way. A family Mass of Christian burial will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Friday, April 3, 2020. Her final resting place will be St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery in Eau Claire, WI.
