Dan G. Shargas, age 92, of Eau Claire, passed away on Tuesday, December 5, 2017, at Dove Healthcare – West, Eau Claire. Dan was born on March 27, 1925, in Toms River, NJ, to George and Elizabeth (Mengason) Shargas. As a youngster he was interested in aviation and built and flew model airplanes. Upon graduating from high school, he immediately enlisted in the Navy and was given the opportunity to become an aviation mechanic during WWII. As a civilian he obtained his private pilot license, his commercial license and his instructor’s license. His entire career was spent in some form of aviation until his retirement in 1980. He married Phyllis Ward on November 12, 1950. Together they raised a daughter, Lynn, and a son, Dan, in New Jersey. In 1981 Dan and Phyllis moved to Eau Claire. Dan began building an airplane soon after. He completed it in 1982 and flew it until 1992. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; children, Lynn (Greg) Kissinger of Stone Lake, WI, and Dan Shargas of Jacksonville, FL; granddaughter, Beth (Eric) Faulconer of Golden Valley, MN; four nephews; and a niece. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 13, 2017, at St. Olaf Catholic Church, 3220 Monroe St., Eau Claire, with Father Paul Hoffman officiating. A visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Burial will take place in Northern Wisconsin Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Spooner, WI.
