Esther Gorton Obituary

Esther R. Gorton passed away peacefully in the company of her two daughters and oldest granddaughter on Wednesday, January 2, 2019, at Heritage Assisted Living Facility where she resided for 8 years. She was born on September 5, 1931 in the Town of Otter Creek to Harry and Wally Kumferman. Esther married Marvin I. Gorton on December 31, 1947 in Stillwater, MN and resided in Eau Claire during their 65 years together Esther was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on February 5, 1956 and remained a faithful servant of Jehovah and member of the local congregation right up until her death. She enjoyed sharing her faith and hope for the future with many she came in contact with. In her younger years, Esther worked as a nurse’s aide at the Eau Claire County Nursing Home. She also worked as a housekeeper for several families in the area where she formed close bonds with all members of the family, including children and pets. Following retirement, she continued to keep in touch with and follow the lives of these individuals that were so much a part of hers. In the summertime, she rode shot-gun and patiently smiled and waved through miles and miles of antique car parades in support of her husband’s pastime. Those close to her recall her warm heart, intelligence, wit, and sense of humor. People often came to her for advice because of it. She was a talented writer of short stories and poetry and could spin a yarn at the drop of a hat. Esther is survived by her children, Connie (Rick) Gorud and Barbara (Gary) Christopherson; grandchildren, Brian (Sharon) Roberge, Rick (Chris) Robergelund, Laura Christopherson, Bethany Hagen, and Erik Christopherson; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin; parents; two infant brothers; brothers, Hank and Harry; sisters, Betty and Evelyn; and grandson, Ryan. Funeral Services will be held at Noon on Saturday, January 12, 2019, at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home, 814 First Ave. in Eau Claire, with Jason Sutherland officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in Eau Claire. The family wishes to thank Heritage Assisted Living Facility and St. Croix Hospice Center for their compassion and support through this difficult time.
