Frederick Magadance Obituary

Frederick “Fred” H. Magadance, age 70, passed away peacefully Sunday, February 11, 2018, at Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Eau Claire, surrounded by his loving family due to complications from the flu. Fred was born April 15, 1947, to Harris and Hazel (Tuff) Magadance. His father died just prior to his birth leaving his mother, Hazel, to raise him as a single parent along with his older brother, Larry. He attended school in Mondovi graduating in 1965. He attended UW-Eau Claire for several years following high school. In 1974, he married his life partner, Kay Halverson. Theirs was a marriage of love and friendship, and unlimited support for each other. Together they enjoyed cooking, fine dining, good wines, and wonderful road trips traveling to destinations from east to west across the country and discovering many points of interest along the way. He had many different hobbies and interests; introducing them to Kay so they could enjoy them together. In his earlier years he loved to fish, hunt, and any opportunity to have a party. In his retirement, he embraced the challenges of the New York Times, Saturday Stumper, and other crossword puzzles—always in ink. He continued to enjoy the company of others, although Packer games were reserved for just him and Kay. He loved trivial things, learning the smallest of details about so many things which he was more than happy to share with others. He valued family and friends and any opportunity to have some fun. He was a gentleman with a calm presence and a great sense of humor. Above all, he had a deep and sincere faith in God. He began his work life at a very early age helping his mother at her restaurant, Hazel’s Café, in Mondovi. It was there that he began his taste for good food which led to his development of a very polished palate and love for cooking. His time during high school canning beans at the Mondovi Canning Factory was probably a little less helpful to his taste buds, but certainly to his development of responsible work habits. He worked at National Presto for several years until they closed their munitions production. After a short stint with Uniroyal, he found his true calling as an insurance agent for Allstate Insurance Company. His placed great value on the importance of serving his clients and earned many honors and awards during his 25 plus years of service. He is survived by his wife, Kay; brother, Larry (Muriel); nieces, Jamie Meyer (friend Randy) and Kathy (Bill) Mueller. He is further survived by his in-laws, Michael (Marilyn) Halverson, John (Arlene) Halverson, Ken (Alice) Halverson, Keith Halverson, Sue Papenfuss, Pat Kovacs, Martina Halverson, Dan Halverson, and Terri Halverson. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his father and mother-in-law. A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 17, 2018, at Newman Parish, at the Ecumenical Religious Center, 110 Garfield Avenue, Eau Claire, WI. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11:30 prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Community Table, St. Francis Food Pantry, Sojourner House, or a charity of your choice. For online condolences, visit www.lenmarkfh.com
