Harriet Luann Winter

Harriet Luann Winter, age 78, passed away surrounded by her loving family at Mayo Health System Hospital in Eau Claire, WI on January 29, 2019. Harriet was born on July 10, 1940 to Harry and Mable (Keller) Saxton in Dodge Center, MN. She attended school in Dodge Center, MN. She married Darrell Louks and they lived in Texas while he served in the Air Force. She later married Harris Goplen where they farmed in rural Zumbrota for a number of years. She received pleasure from gardening, raising chickens, teaching Sunday School, and helping her children with school and 4-H projects. She enjoyed listening to polka’s & country music, and loved to dance. She married Mike Winter on July 10, 1979. They moved to Ladysmith, WI where she worked for multiple sewing companies and ended her career at Artisan’s in Tony, WI as their garment inspector. Mike and Harriet moved to Tony, WI and lived on the lake. They loved to fish and spend time on their boat. They moved to Byron, MN in August of 2006. After Mike passed away, Harriet moved to the Oakwood Hills Retirement Community in Eau Claire, WI where she made a lot of friends and loved to play bingo, Pegs ‘N Jokers, and candy bar trivia, and truly enjoyed her time there. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She touched the hearts of all who knew her. She is survived by three daughters, Marcia (Bruce) Finseth of Eau Claire, WI, Sandra Goplen of Ellsworth, WI, Michelle (Robert) Schuster of Byron, MN; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters Elrose (late Duane) Douglas of Rochester, MN, and Judy (Ken) Folie of Kasson, MN, brother Jerry (Marge) Saxton of Morristown, MN; and several nieces and nephews. ­­ She was preceded in death by her parents Harry and Mable Saxton; daughter Debbie Louks; husband Michael Winter; brother Ray Saxton; son-in-law Gregory (Marcia) Hondel. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 2, 2019 at Mount Moriah Lutheran Church in Byron, MN. There will be a visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place at a later date at the Zumbrota Cemetery in Zumbrota, MN.
