John Zettler Obituary

John D. Zettler, age 63, of Eau Claire died on April 2, 2018, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire. John was born to Reuben and Shirley (Schmaedeke) Zettler on March 11, 1955. John’s family moved to Eau Claire in 1965. John’s love of baseball began as a child and grew into a passion for most sports, especially baseball and NASCAR. He graduated from Memorial High School and received his BA in Journalism from UWEC. John started working at Consumers Co-op Credit Union in 1980 and worked through conversions and name changes. During his 30 years, John received many promotions becoming Vice President and CFO of Citizens Community Federal. While working at Citizens Community Federal, John met and married Paula (Schultz) on January 20th, 1989. They were blessed with two children, Andrew and Amelia. In the Spring of 1991, John and Paula purchased a cottage on Lake Holcombe. John rarely missed a weekend, tending to his beautiful flower gardens. Friends and family looked forward to the annual 4th of July gatherings. John is survived by Paula; his two children, Andrew and Amelia; his father, Rueben; sisters, Janet Bryant and Pat Croston; brother, Gary (Dale) Zettler; mother-in-law, Faith Schultz; in addition to many nieces and nephews who all have fond memories of him during their childhood. John was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley; stepmother, Judith; father-in-law, Charles Schultz; and nieces/nephews, Katie, Kevin, Berkley and Kiel. The family wishes to thank the nursing staff at Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire for their tireless care and understanding. Memorials may be designated to Mayo Clinic Hospice Program, 1221 Whipple St. Eau Claire, WI 54703.
