Lois Lenore Squires

Lois Lenore (Ganong) Squires, 88, of Menomonie, WI, passed away of congestive heart failure on Wednesday, January 17, 2018, surrounded by family and friends. Lois was born in Eau Claire, WI, on April 29, 1929, to Arthur and Maysie (Miles) Ganong. She grew up on a farm with her three brothers, Arthur, Clayton and Raymond, and enjoyed spending time with her cousins and neighbors in the Town of Wheaton. She graduated from Eau Claire High School in 1947. Lois met her lifelong love, Earl Squires, through mutual friends, and on October 13, 1951, they married. In 2017, they celebrated 66 years of marriage. Lois and Earl farmed in the Eau Claire area in the early years of their marriage before moving to the Menomonie area. Lois and Earl moved to their current farm south of Menomonie in 1967 and have lived and farmed with their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren to the present day. Lois and Earl enjoyed traveling together and shared a love of bluegrass music. They spent their retirement years traveling in their camper attending various bluegrass festivals and visiting family who lived around the country. They found a wonderful community of friends enjoying bluegrass music and warmer weather for part of the winter in the Rio Grande Valley in Texas. Lois and Earl enjoyed visits from their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Lois always had time for family and often had grandchildren and great-grandchildren stopping by to visit with her. She loved flowers and watching the birds at her bird feeders. She also was interested with things happening on the farm and kept an eye on things from her large picture window. Lois is survived by her husband, Earl; brother, Raymond (Gail) Ganong; sisters-in-law, Anne Ganong, Judy Squires and Lorraine Squires; brother-in-law, LaVerne Squires; daughter, Cheryl (Douglas) Ullom; son, Rodney (Sandy) Squires; son, Duane Squires; granddaughter, Amanda (Douglas) Boyce; grandsons, Lee (Melissa) Ullom, Travis (Erica) Ullom, Bradley (Cassie) Ullom and Ryan (Dawn) Ullom; step-grandsons, Kyle and Kirk, and Isaias (Flavi); and thirteen great-grandchildren, Josiah, Marcus, Jayden, Ellis, Shepard, Hannah, Frederick, Elijah, Naomi, Cheyenne, Jackson, Madelyn and Yahel; as well as many extended family and friends. Lois is preceded in death by parents, Arthur and Maysie Ganong; brothers, Arthur Ganong and Clayton Ganong; daughter-in-law, Kay Squires; brother-in-law, Larry Squires; and infant son, Douglas Squires. Lois will be greatly missed by her loving husband Earl, her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many friends. The funeral service will be held at 4:00 pm, on Sunday, January 21, 2018, at Cornerstone Apostolic Church, 110 Independence Drive, Elk Mound, WI 54739. Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at the church prior to funeral services. Interment will be held at a later date.
