Lyle Books Obituary

Lyle C. Books, 87, of Eau Claire, died Sunday, July 15, 2018, at his residence, surrounded by his family. He was born in Rock Falls, WI, on December 27, 1930, a son of Ollie and Clara (Thalacker) Books. Lyle graduated from Eau Claire Senior High School with the Class of 1949. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, from October 1951until his honorable discharge in 1955, and was a life-time member of VFW Post 305 and Ascension Lutheran Church. Lyle married Virginia Mattson on July 10, 1954 in Eau Claire, WI. They had four children together and were later divorced. He married Geraldine L. Rongholt on February 16, 1974, in Stillwater, MN. Lyle enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time with family and always had a joke to tell. Lyle is survived by his wife, Geraldine; son, Bruce (Maureen) Books of Fall Creek, WI; three daughters, Sharon (Randy) Shackleton of Chippewa Falls, WI, Helen (Roger) Prochnow of Wausau, WI, and Donna (George) Prince of New Auburn, WI; step-children, Scott (Vivian) Dahl of Brunswick, GA, Jeff (Jackie) Dahl of Wausau, WI, Julie Dahl of Waupaca, WI, and Valerie Dahl of Missouri; sister, Marjorie Eckel of Eau Claire; 23 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Willis, Donald, Raymond, and Louis Books. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 19, 2018, at Ascension Lutheran Church, 1500 Peterson Ave. in Eau Claire, with Pastor Paul Sullivan officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Military rites will be conducted by VFW Post 305 following the service at the church.
