Patricia Gerseth Obituary

Patricia M. Gerseth, 86, of Eau Claire, passed away on Tuesday, June 13, 2017, at Dove Healthcare – West, Eau Claire, after a long illness and with her family at her side. She was born on May 28, 1931, a daughter to James and Henrietta (Koch) Gorman in Cross Plains, WI. She was raised in Madison, WI, and graduated from Edgewood High School in 1949. She married the love of her life, John C. Gerseth, Jr., on July 30, 1955, at St. Raphael’s Cathedral in Madison. While raising four children, she worked at various jobs, including retail and secretarial. She also spent many years as a caregiver to her mother and then her mother-in-law. Pat and her husband, John, moved to Eau Claire in 1979 and began a new chapter in their 61 years of life together. After John’s retirement, they enjoyed traveling, fishing, camping, and spending time with family and friends. In high school, she began playing the organ for St. Raphael’s High School Choir and thus began her joy of sharing her musical gift. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Altoona since 1979 and was one of several organists who played for Masses there for 27 years. She was also a member of the Mission Club and Fatima Apostolate. After her husband’s retirement, Pat also became an organist for the daily Masses at Sacred Heart Chapel until her health no longer allowed her to play the organ. She and John also became members of St. James the Greater Catholic Church. Patricia is survived by her two sons, David (Lavina) Gerseth of Madison, WI, and Robert (Barbie) Gerseth of Hortonville, WI; two daughters, Jean Gerseth and Mary Gerseth both of Eau Claire, WI; one brother, John Gorman of Fond-du-lac, WI; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Ronald (Memory) Gerseth and Eugene (Vicki) Gerseth; five grandchildren, Jamie (Matthew) DeRungs, Christina (Jason) Mayr, Hannah, Morgan, and Dereck Gerseth; five great-grandchildren, Devan, Carter, and Layla Mayr, Ryker and Jackson DeRungs; as well as other nieces, nephews, and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband, John; parents; parents-in-law, John and Irene (Miller) Gerseth; sister, Florence Gorman; sister-in-law, Mary Gorman; nieces, Kathy Gorman-Pope and Barb Gorman; nephews, Michael Gorman and Bill Gerseth.
