Sue Shea Obituary

Sue Ellen (Novak) Shea, age 69, of Eau Claire, died Tuesday, January 2, 2018, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Eau Claire, surrounded by her family. Sue was born August 31, 1948, in Chippewa Falls, to Bruce and Doris “Dodie” (Sixel) Novak. Sue married John Shea July 3, 1980, in Eau Claire. She owned and operated Sue’s Dog Grooming in Chippewa Falls for 40 years working side-by-side with loving husband John, for 33 of those years. Sue’s love of animals started at an early age and as a young teen was instrumental in suggesting a family move to the country because the farm came with a horse. Sue loved gardening and was happiest being outdoors. Like a tumble weed she was always on the go. She loved to play golf, tennis, and disco dance. She painted many beautiful oil paintings for family and friends. Sue loved to sew and sold hand-made dog coats at her Shop. She touched the lives of many dogs and dog-owners alike. Sue hosted the family Christmas dinner for 20 plus years and mastered the art of timing so everything was hot and ready at the same time. She always looked forward to taking her nieces to the annual bowling party on New Year’s Day. Sue was a gentle and soft-spoken person and never complained during her long illness. One of her favorite things in recent days was to watch the birds and wildlife from her patio window. Sue graduated from Regis High School in 1966 and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Social Welfare from UW Eau Claire in 1971. She is survived by her husband of 37 years, John; sister, Paula (Daniel) Collins of Eau Claire, many nieces and nephews, cousins, sisters and brothers-in law, her beloved dog Sammy and her beautiful tri-colored cat, Callie. She was preceded in death by her father (1996) and mother (1997). The family would like to thank the short stay staff at Sacred Heart Hospital for their care and support. A celebration of her life will be held 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 13, 2018, at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home, 814 First Ave, Eau Claire. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Private family burial will be at a later date.
