Wilma Catherine Wittig, 87, passed away in Eau Claire, WI on February 6, 2016, with her family by her side. Wilma was born on June 17, 1928 in Rock Falls, WI, to William and Elizabeth (Bauer) Biesterveld, the second of ten children. She attended Cranberry Creek grade school and Durand High School where she graduated in 1946. She worked at Sacred Heart Hospital for 20 years, where she spent the last 10 years in payroll with Sister Mariel. She married LaVern Hanson in May 1952, who soon passed away. She married Tony Wittig on September 23, 1957. Wilma had a strong faith in God. She enjoyed volunteering her time at St. Francis Food Pantry for many years, gardening, and was very active with her grandchildren and spending time with her family. She is survived by their six children, Tony (Paula) Wittig, Angie Matisko, Greg (Christie) Wittig, Mary Wittig, Mitch (Cyndee) Wittig, and Jackie (Tony) Francis; five grandchildren, Michaela Borja, Natasha Wittig, Thomas Borja, Codey (Becki) Wittig, and Andrea Borja; two great-grandchildren, Austin and Laynee House; brothers William (Rita) Biesterveld, Doug (Kathy) Biesterveld, and Roger (Julie) Biesterveld; sisters, Irma (Donald) Bauer, Judy (Tom) Fagerland and Audrey Biesterveld-Martin; sisters-in-law Pat Biesterveld, Helen Wittig, Edna Fischer, Gertie (Ken) Holmstead; brothers-in-law Louie (Mary Ann) Wittig and Jim Wittig; several step grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; first husband, LaVern Hanson in 1954; second husband Tony in 2002; brothers, Gary and Bob Biesterveld; and sister, Patricia Ulwelling. Wilma was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, who enjoyed her faith, her family and the simple things in life. She was a lovely person who brightened everyone's life, lovingly placed others before herself, and will be greatly missed and remembered very fondly. Memorial service for Wilma will be at 12pm Friday, February 12, 2016 at St. James the Greater Catholic Church, 2502 11th St, Eau Claire, WI 54703, with Father Tom Krieg officiating. Visitation will be two hours prior to services at the church. A private family burial will take place at a later date.
