Obituary

A. Lange Playter, 88, of Eau Claire died Sunday, November 12, 2006, at Sacred Heart Hospital. He was born in Eau Claire on May 15, 1918, the son of James and Gladys (Lange) Playter. He graduated from Eau Claire Senior High School with the class of 1936. Lange attended UW-Eau Claire, Ripon College, and finished his education at the School of Business in Minneapolis.\r\nReturning to Eau Claire he worked as a swimming instructor at the YMCA, and was an active Boy Scout Leader. \r\nHe entered the U.S. Army on January 3, 1942, serving in the European Theatre during World War II until his honorable discharge on October 24, 1945.\r\nLange married Jane Gaslin on June 21, 1947 in Eau Claire. Jane died in 1977. He married Ann Annis-Playter in Eau Claire on November 23, 1993.\r\nHe worked 20 years in the office at American Materials until 1977. He then worked as a realtor for MCKY-Ellis Realty though 1979, and retired as an appraiser for Appraisal Services in 2001.\r\nHe was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ.\r\nLange is survived by his wife, Ann; son, Jeff ( Debbie) Playter of Lynnwood, WA; daughter, Linda (Steve) Young of Menomonie; four grandchildren, Travis (Tanya) Young of Menomonie, Trevor (Rebecca) Young of Fort Lewis, WA, and Jessica and Sarah Playter both of WA; his brother, Stephen Playter of Chippewa Falls; sister, Nancy Manion of Detroit, MI; and nieces and nephews.\r\nHe was preceded in death by his parents.\r\nGraveside memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 17, 2006, at Lakeview Cemetery, Eau Claire with the Rev. Dr. Mark X. Pirazzini officiating. VFW Post #305 will conduct military graveside honors at Lakeview Cemetery. Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral and Cremation Services is serving his family.\r\nFamily requests memorials be directed to First Congregational United Church of Christ, 310 Broadway St., Eau Claire, WI, 54703.\r\n
