AGNES "SHIRLEY" McSORLEY, 78, of 939 Gilbert St., died Friday, June 16, 2000 in Eau Claire. She was born on October 22, 1921 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Walter and Agnes (Hanrahan) Newman. Shirley moved to Eau Claire with her family in 1935 where she graduated from St. Patrick's High School with the Class of 1939. Shirley married William "David" McSorley on November 27, 1943 in Greenville, MS. She was a nursing assistant for over twenty years at Sacred Heart Hospital until her retirement in 1982. She was a member of St. James Rosary Confraternity "St. Bridget Group".\r\nSurvivors include her husband, David; seven children, William David III (Rita) of San Antonio TX, Karen (Mitchel) McDonald of Chesapeake, VA, Margaret (Thomas) Culbert of Alexandria, VA. Melinda (Phillip) Neuheisel of Milwaukee, Theresa (James) Zoellner of Aurora, CO, Jon (Sue) of Eau Claire, and Paul (Terri) of Middleton, OH; twenty grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.\r\nShirley was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Michael McDonald; a brother, Walter J. Newman Jr.; and two sisters, Margaret Stanek and Dorothy Utter.\r\nShirley will be fondly remembered for her compassion for others and devotion to her family.\r\nFuneral Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. James the Greater Catholic Church with Father John A. Schultz officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may call 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and an hour prior to services Tuesday at the church. There will be a Rosary Service at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.\r\nFamily requests memorials be directed to St. James the Greater Parish.
