Obituary

Alan W. Weaver, 72, of Eau Claire died Friday, December 14, 2007, at his home. He was born in Dunn County, Wisconsin on December 8, 1935, the son of Riley and Gladys (Flatland) Weaver. Alan graduated from Colfax High School, and received his Bachelor of Science degree from UW-Eau Claire in 1965. \r\nHe served as a medic in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from December 1954 to December 1956. While in the army, Alan married his high school sweetheart Marilyn M. Anderson on January 21, 1956, at Holden Lutheran Church, in Grant Township near Colfax. In 2005 they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.\r\nFor 25 years, Alan taught math at North Junior High and then Delong Middle School. He retired from the Eau Claire Board of Education in 1991. During his teaching years, Alan coached Little League and Babe Ruth baseball, as well as basketball and Junior High football. For 21 years he worked part-time at Gamble Robinson while teaching school. For the past 12 years, he worked with his son Kevin's Pro Seal Coating business. \r\nAlan was an active member of Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd for 46 years. He taught Sunday school, ushered, and drove the church van. He was also an active member of Eau Claire Moose Lodge #1408\r\nAlan enjoyed playing golf, dartball, bowling in mixed couples league, having breakfast with his friends, playing cards, riding bike, and dancing with Marilyn at the Moose Lodge. They enjoyed traveling to almost every state, and visiting family. He always enjoyed attending his children and grandchildren's activities and sporting events.\r\nFor the last 15 years, Alan and Marilyn spent the winter months in Florida enjoying the sunny weather with family and friends.\r\nAlan is survived by his wife, Marilyn; four children, Gary (Pam) of Eau Claire, Peggy (Rick) Lockwood of Evergreen, CO, Kevin (Sandi) of New Richmond, and Roxanne (Eddie) Valdivieso of Kill Devil Hills, N.C; ten grandchildren Braden and Alexandria Lockwood, Jason Weaver (Val Bonner), Melissa Tarbox (Jeremy), Chad, Chase and Christian Weaver, Averi, Hannah Jo and Ethan Valdivieso; one great grandson, Brody Alan Tarbox; three sisters, Sonia (Prescott) Johnson, of Chippewa Falls, Sandra Busche of Sartell, MN, and Sarona Zimmerman of Taylor Falls, MN; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Gordon Anderson of Ridgeland, Buzz Anderson (Judy) and Janice Scheidecker (Dewey Strub) both of Caledonia, MN, and Judy Kothlow (Don) of Menomonie; and many other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.\r\nHe was preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law, Sandy Anderson; parents-in-law, Lloyd and Bernice Anderson; and two brothers-in-law, Skip Zimmerman and Dick Busche. \r\nMemorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 19, 2007, at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Eau Claire with Pastor John E. Hosmann officiating. Burial will be in Holden Lutheran Church Cemetery in Grant Township, Dunn County WI. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Wednesday at the church.\r\n
