Alberta J. Hansen, 82, of Eau Claire, died Monday, November 11, 2013, at Dove Healthcare South in Eau Claire. Alberta was born in Cedar County, Iowa, December 19, 1930, the daughter of J. Lund and Dorothy Madsen. She attended public schools in West Liberty, Iowa, and Dana College, Blair, Nebraska. She taught one year in a rural school near her home and as a Parish Worker in Nazareth Lutheran Church, Cedar Falls, Iowa, for two years. On July 27, 1952, Alberta was united in marriage with Roland H. Hansen. After her husband's ordination in 1954, the family lived in Brooklyn, Wisconsin, North Hollywood, California, Green Bay, Wisconsin, and Eau Claire Wisconsin, where her husband served congregations. Her gifts of ministry and interests were used as a senior choir member, and the women's work in her congregation. Her special passion was sewing blankets and helping with assembling kits for Lutheran World Relief. Congregation members will remember her as a faithful pastor's wife and her family revered her as 'Mom' and Grandma'. She loved her Lord, her family, and her church. Alberta is survived by her children, Thomas (Lynda) Hansen of Green Bay, Elizabeth (Wayne) Metzger of West Allis, and Christine (Paul) Datta of Berlin; five grandchildren, Meredith Hansen, Sarah Olson, Emily (Jaime) Alvarez-Olson, Jacob (Caitlan) Olson, and Joseph Hansen; three step-grandchildren, Jennifer (Mostafa) Lotfi, Thomas Metzger, Ginger (Rick) John, and Kristin Datta; two great-grandsons, Dakota and Mason Hansen; and step-great-granddaughters, Rasha Lofti and Lily Henke. Also surviving her are sisters, Patricia (Robert) Kloth of Wichita, Kansas and Carole (Henry) Suozzi of San Marcos, California; sister-in-law, Betty Madsen of Atalissa, Iowa; plus her husband's family, Connie Hansen, Vernon (Marcia) Hansen, both of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Kay (Kyle) Zimmerman of New London, Minnesota; and nieces and nephews across the country. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roland in 2006; brother, Paul Madsen; daughter, Miriam; granddaughter, Jessica; and her parents. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 15, 2013, from 4 to 7 PM at Lenmark Gomsrud Linn Funeral Home, 814 First Avenue, Eau Claire. Funeral Service will be at 11 AM on Saturday, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 1310 Main St., Eau Claire with a visitation beginning at 10 AM. Pastor Gail George will be officiating.
