He served his country in World War II by working in Naval Research in Washington D.C.\r\nAl had two careers, first as a professional engineer employed by Trane Company in LaCrosse and, later Eau Claire Plumbing Supply. In 1958 he became a representative for Lutheran Brotherhood Insurance Company, a pursuit he enjoyed until his retirement in 1984.\r\nOne of Al's greatest joys was vacationing at the family cottage at Shell Lake, Wisconsin. He loved being there, whether with the boisterous exuberance of the entire family or more tranquil times alone with Julie. \r\nA celebration of Al's life will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Grace Lutheran Church with Pastor Rolf Nestingen officiating.
