Alice M. Berndt, 89, of Eau Claire passed away Thursday, March 15, 2007. She was born in Levis, Wisconsin on March 20, 1917, the daughter of Lewis and Mary (Person) Jermstad.\r\nAlice graduated from Barron County Normal at Rice Lake in 1936, received a diploma from Eau Claire Teachers College in 1939 and her Bachelor of Science degree in 1945. She taught for 25 years, at Lodi, Appleton, then Longfellow and Cleghorn in Eau Claire until her retirement in 1979.\r\nOn July 21, 1951, Alice married Ralph A. Berndt in Osseo, Wisconsin.\r\nShe was a charter member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Eau Claire where she was active in all aspects of church life. Alice was a strong supporter of the construction of the Good Shepherd Senior Apartments where she lived for the past six years. \r\nAlice was an accomplished seamstress who showed her love for her children and grandchildren through her artistic creations. \r\nAlice is survived by her four daughters, Mary Kolberg of Pewaukee, Kathy (Blaine) Johnson of Eau Claire, Paula (John) Wozniak of Rhinelander, and Sandy (Barry) Kailhofer of Seymour; sister, Ruby Jermstad of Eau Claire; sister-in-law, Marie Huse of Eau Claire; and six grandchildren, Matthew Johnson, Mark Johnson, Nicholas Johnson, Chad Kolberg, Amanda (Joseph) Timmer, and Megan Kailhofer; and many nieces and nephews. \r\nShe was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ralph in 1992; sister, Blanche Hageness; and two brothers, Philip and Lee Jermstad.\r\nFuneral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 19, 2007, at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd with Pastor John E. Hosmann officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Eau Claire. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Lenmark Gomsrud Linn Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Monday at the church.\r\n
