Alice Betty ( nee: Lightfoot Reshel) Emerson, a long-time resident of Eau Claire, WI died peacefully on Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at Mayo Clinic Health Systems Eau Claire surrounded by her loved ones. Alice was born August, 16, 1927 in Fairchild, WI to Alvin and Berneice (Brandstedter) Lightfoot. When she was 8 years old the family moved to Pittsville where she graduated from high school in 1945. She obtained her RN diploma in 1949 from Luther Hospital School of Nursing. Alice worked at Luther Hospital from 1948-1994 (46 years). Alice married Leonard James Emerson of Eleva, WI, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Eau Claire, WI, in November of 1947. They built a home on Gilbert St., created long lasting friendships, and cherished joyful moments in the neighborhood. Alice and Leonard enjoyed wonderful years together until his death in 1980. Above all, Alice was guided by a strong faith in Christ. As a charter member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, where she gave 60 years of faithful service. She was a council member and participated in numerous women's activities. She loved the Lord. In addition, Alice was a giver to her community. She served on the Luther Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association, volunteered for the Red Cross and worked with the homeless through Inter Faith Hospitality. For the past 14 years, Alice resided at the Real Life Apartments. She spent many afternoons playing cards, discussing the latest book club selection, and sharing laughs with good friends. Family was important to Alice. She is survived by her two daughters, Mary (David) Larson of Eau Claire, WI and Jean (Dennis) Baer of Sanibel Island, FL; five grandchildren, Greg (Mica) Darley-Emerson, Katie (Adam) Wehling, Kristen Emerson, Tyler Baer and Trevor Baer; three great-grandchildren, Dylan, Easton and Grace; daughter-in-law, Lee Ann Emerson of Baraboo, WI; brother, Allen (Karen) Reshel of Titusville, FL; sister-in-law, Geraldine Reshel of Jacksonville, AR; numerous nieces, nephews and family friend, Kaye Davie. Alice was preceded in death by her parents; step father, William Reshel; her brother, Charles Reshel; and her loving son, Steven Emerson. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., Thursday, September, 24, 2015 at LENMARK-GOMSRUD-LINN FUNERAL HOME WEST CHAPEL, 1405 N. Clairemont, Ave., Eau Claire, WI. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 1120 Cedar Street, Eau Claire, WI, with a visitation one hour prior. Interment will be at Rest Haven Cemetery in the Town of Washington. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd.
