Alice E. Sabin, 93, formerly of Eau Claire, passed away peacefully Monday morning February 24, 2014, at Chippewa Manor Nursing Home in Chippewa Falls, WI. She was born on October 9, 1920, in Menomonie, WI, to Paul and Helen (Nelson) Lehman. As a child, Alice loved to read and learn about foreign lands. She attended Stout before she married Justin F. Sabin on November 15, 1941. In 1950, they purchased a grocery store on Truax Blvd. in Eau Claire and operated Sabin's Grocery until 1982. After retirement, she pursued several areas of interest with great passion, including oil painting, casino gaming, cheering on the Packers and especially travel – an interest she instilled in many of her children and grandchildren. She was also a long-time member of First Lutheran Church. Alice is survived by her five children, Jeanne (Chet) Browne of Carmel, IN, Gary (Mary) Sabin of Plymouth, MN, John Sabin of Mexico, William (Karen) Sabin of Eau Claire, and Mark (Mary) Sabin of Brookfield, WI; sister Nellie (Harry) Krumrie of Mosinee, WI. She is further survived by her eight grandchildren; Jeffery (Angela) Moe of Zionsville, IN, Allison (John) Richter of Champlin, MN, Ben (Dawn) Sabin of Madison, WI, Tara (Steve) Sabin-Umnus of Eau Claire, Elizabeth (Ryan) Roh of Westfield, IN, Ryan (Kristen) Sabin of Madison, WI , Leah Sabin of Huntington, NY and Luke Sabin of Prescott, AZ; and twelve great-grandchildren. Alice was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Justin; brother Earl Lehman; son-in-law Peter Moe and grandson Greg Moe. Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, February 27, 2014, at Lenmark Gomsrud Linn Funeral Home, 814 First Avenue, Eau Claire, with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Rev. Bob Hoekstra will be officiating. Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Eau Claire. The family would like to thank all the kind and loving caregivers at Chippewa Manor.
