Obituary

Alicia O'Malley, 83, of Eau Claire died Saturday, December 3, 2005, at Dove Health Care.\r\nShe was born in Deer Lodge, Montana on June 6, 1922, the daughter of Dominick and Mary (Manchester) O'Malley. She moved to with her family to Eau Claire in 1924.\r\nAlicia graduated in the "High 10" from Eau Claire Senior High with the class of 1940. She was an executive secretary at Uniroyal Tire Company in Eau Claire, from 1940 until her retirement in 1980. Alicia was a charter member of the Eau Claire Toastmistress Club.\r\nShe was diagnosed as diabetic on January 18, 1927. In 1977, Alicia was awarded the Victory Medal by the Joslin Foundation in recognition of surviving 50 years of diabetes and survived 78 years with diabetes at the time of her death.\r\nShe participated in diabetes research projects at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn, University of Minnesota Hospital in Minneapolis, Minn, and the National Institute of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. Her interest and participation in diabetes research was life long and never wavered. \r\nAlicia is survived by her cousins.\r\nShe was preceded in death by her parents; and her sister, Margaret O'Malley. \r\nBy Alicia's request no services will be held. Following cremation her burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery.\r\nMemorials may be directed to the American Diabetes Association, Memorial and Honor Program, P. O.
