Allan E. "Al" Friederich, 64, of 1916 E. Lexington Blvd.,Eau Claire, died Monday, January 20,1997 at Luther Hospital. He was born June 10, 1932 in Chippewa Falls to Raymond and Josephine (Draffehn) Friederich. Al married Mary Ann Olson at Grace Lutheran Church on July 10, 1955. He taught school in Plainview and Rochester,MN prior to moving to Eau Claire in 1958. He received his MA degree from the University of Minnesota in 1961. Al taught 32 years at Memorial High School, retiring as chairman of the science department in 1989. \r\nHe enlisted in the 32nd Division of the Wisconsin National Guard in 1949. He served with the Red Arrow Division at Fort Lewis,WA in 1961-62 during the Berlin Crisis. Al commanded A Battery, 1st Battalion, 121 Artillery from Stanley until transferring to the Army Reserve and serving with the 5045 U.S.A.R. school in Madison until retiring in 1984 as Lt. Colonel.\r\nHe was a member of Knights Of Pythias # 49 and Sanctuary Lodge # 347 F&AM.Al was a faithful member of Grace Lutheran Church, serving on various boards and choir. He sang in the Eau Claire Male Chorus since 1990 and served as its president the past two years. He was a volunteer with the Red Cross since his retirement.\r\nSurvivors include his wife, Mary Ann; children, Peter and wife Suzan and their son Matthew of Littleton,CO, Gretchen Field and her husband, Dave of Chippewa Falls, Catherine Ott and her husband Steven and their children, Samuel, Elizabeth "Ellie" and Erin of Marshfield, Jim and his daughters, Kinsey and Samantha of St. Louis,MO, and Christine Friederich of Woodruff; and his faithful dog, Broughkneaux.\r\nHe was preceded in death by his parents; and an infant brother, Walter. \r\nAl was a personable individual who loved interacting with others, factors which contributed to create an enthusiastic teacher. He enjoyed many memorable times with family and friends at their home on Lake Wissota while fishing and boating, and his family will remember his woodworking projects shared with them and his determination to be the domino's champ. Al will be sadly missed by his loved ones.\r\nServices will be at 11 A.M. Friday at Grace Lutheran Church,Eau Claire with Pastor Barbara A. Koch officiating. Burial will be Rest Haven Gardens Cemetery, Town of Washington. Friends may call 4 to 8 P.M. Thursday at Lenmark-Gomsrud Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Friday at the church.\r\nThe family requests that memorials be directed to Grace Lutheran Church or the Eau Claire Male Chorus Scholarship Fund.\r\n
