Alyce O. Bailey, 94, of Eau Claire passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 10, 2011, at Grace Woodlands Assisted Living with her family by her side. Alyce was born in Eau Claire on May 3, 1917, a daughter to Oscar and Benelia (Wagnild) Jacobson. Alyce was a beautiful singer. When she was 11 years old she began to sing for weddings and funerals. Alyce married Paul D. Bailey, on June 18, 1938, in Stillwater, MN. She loved to sew, knit and bake. She also enjoyed the time she spent fixing the hair of many of her friends and family. She was very involved in the Rosary Confraternity at St. James, and baked pies for many occasions at the church. She was a Girl Scout and Brownie leader for many years, and enjoyed all of the time she was able to spend with her children. Alyce is survived by her two daughters, Paula Roach, of Eau Claire, and Kathleen (Jim) Hicks-Novotny of Eau Claire; two sons, Charles Bailey of Eau Claire, and Bruce (Th?y) Bailey of Opelika, AL; 8 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a brother, William (Maryellen) Jacobson of Eau Claire; two sisters-in-law, Viginia Jacobson of Eau Claire and Jeanette Jacobson of Gardnerville, NV; and several nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul, on May 17, 1987; her parents; three brothers, Sylvester, Vernon, and Rychard Jacobson; and two sisters-in-law, Georgia Jacobson and Marion Jacobson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, December 14, 2011, at St. James the Greater Catholic Church, 2502 11th Street, Eau Claire, with Father John A. Schultz officiating. Family and friends are welcome for visitation from 9:30 a.m. to the time of service at the church. Entombment will be at Calvary Cemetery Resurrection Mausoleum in Eau Claire. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. James the Greater Catholic Church, Grace Woodlands Assisted Living, and St. Joseph's Hospice.
