ARLENE WIERSGALLA, 76, of 222 Niagara St., died unexpectedly Wednesday, July 16, 1997 at her home. She was born on January 7, 1921 in Chimney Rock, Trempealeau County to Ole and Julia (Klove) Gunderson. Arlene received her education at the rural Chimney Rock School. She married Paul A. Wiersgalla on February 7, 1939 in Independence, WI. They moved to Eau Claire in 1944, Arlene worked at Sacred Heart Hospital and then Luther Hospital until her retirement in 1982. Survivors include a son, Edward (Stephanie) Wiersgalla of Eau Claire; three daughters, Pat (Wayne) Fischer of Spooner, Jeanne (Gary) Corwin and Judith (Stephen) Schilling both of Eau Claire; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; four brothers, Norman (Ottovie) Eau Claire, Glen, Fountain City, Oscar, Whitehall, and Arnold (Marie) Gunderson, Strum; a sister, Julia Olson, Strum; many nieces and nephews; and a dear friend of many years, Mary Jane Keenan of Bloomer.\r\nArlene was an active member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church.\r\nShe was preceded in death by her husband, Paul in 1995; her parents; three brothers, Clarence, Leander, and Selmer; two sisters, Julia Gunderson and Alma Erickson.\r\nFuneral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with Father James F. Trempe officiating. Entombment will be in Resurrection Chapel Mausoleum, Town of Washington. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday (Today) at Lenmark-Gomsrud Funeral Home, and one hour prior to services Saturday at the church. There will be a Parish Prayer Vigil at 7 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.\r\n
