Arnold T. Wing, 86, of Eau Claire died Monday, August 6, 2007, at his home. He was born in Eau Claire on April 28, 1921, a son of Engwal and Helga (Kloften) Wing who were Norwegian immigrants.\r\nDuring his high school years Arnold worked as a caddy at the Eau Claire Country Club. He graduated from Eau Claire Senior High School in 1940. Following graduation he worked at Tank Car Service Stations and later moved to Chicago where he worked for Montgomery Ward before World War II.\r\nArnold married Elaine Weig on May 6, 1951, at First Lutheran Church in Eau Claire, where they were both long time members. Elaine was his high school sweetheart and they had a long romance before they were married.\r\nArnold joined the U.S. Army in Eau Claire on April 13, 1942, and was sworn in at the old Sacred Heart Hospital on Dewey Street. He was sent overseas where he spent nearly three years in the South Pacific and contracted malaria and jungle rot in New Guinea. He was a member of the Second Brigade of Amphibious Engineers and had a T=4 rating. Arnold served as a Seaman, Engineer Coxswain, and Marine Diesel Mechanic on Army landing craft. He received an honorable discharge on November 2, 1945.\r\nHe worked at Uniroyal Tire Factory as a tire builder for 40 years, retiring in 1985.\r\nArnold's hobbies included boating, fishing, carpentry, and car building. Arnold was a loving husband and father who will be forever missed.\r\nArnold is survived his two daughters, Deborah K. Wing and Cynthia L. (Andrew) Reed both of Eau Claire; a sister-in-law, Carol Weig of Bonney Lake, WA; and many nieces and nephews.\r\nHe was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Elaine who passed away March 17, 2001, 50 days before their 50th anniversary; his son, Robert "Bobby" Wing in 2006; two brothers, Norman and Harold Wing; and sister, Margaret (Norman) Morrison.\r\nFuneral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 10, 2007, at First Lutheran Church, Eau Claire with Pastor Amy Odgren officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery where American Legion Post #53 will conduct military graveside honors. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, August 9, 2007, at First Lutheran Church, 1005 Oxford Ave. Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home is serving his family.\r\nThe family would like to thank the staff at Dove Healthcare, Northwest Wisconsin Home Care Hospice caregivers, Arnie's Booster Club, the Reed family, the Coldwell Banker Brenizer family, and the clergy of First Lutheran Church for all their love and support.\r\nThisobituary was completed in part by Arnie. His favorite movie was "It's A Wonderful Life", and like his favorite film, Arnie did have a wonderful life.
