Obituary

Arthur "Art" Benedict Charles David Roach, 81, died February 13th at Sacred Heart Hospital after a short battle with cancer. He was born June 11, 1934 in Eau Claire to William and Rosella (Jacobs) Roach. As a teen, he worked at Carson Park for the Eau Claire Braves. He graduated from Regis High School in 1952. He joined the Army in 1952, and holds a deep respect for all those who have served this country. Art was a devout Catholic and found much peace and comfort in faith. He was called to join the Brothers of St. Pius X in DeSoto, WI in 1958. He eventually returned to Eau Claire and attended x-ray technology school at Sacred Heart Hospital, where he met the love of life, Zeta "Dolly" Barnes. They married in 1968. Arthur worked as an x-ray technician at the Northern Center for the rest of his career, retiring in 1997. He enjoyed football and baseball, and faithfully attended many Packer Games in the 1960's with his brother. He proposed to his wife at the Ice Bowl. He loved to say that any woman that would sit through that cold of a football game was a keeper. He was very active in preserving baseball history in Eau Claire. The years he spent working at the ballpark were some of his favorite memories. Art's friends and family were the most important part of his life. He enjoyed his weekly breakfasts at Altoona Family Restaurant with his wife's family. He thought of his grandchildren as his greatest treasure, and they brought him much joy. Art had a fatherly love in his heart for all of his nieces and nephews. He had a very full social calendar that included many weekly activities with his dear friends. Arthur is survived by his beloved children and their families. Paul and Denise Roach, of Eau Claire, and their children; Jesse, Kara, and Deanna Schultz. Catherine and Mark Hollowitsch, of La Crosse, and their children; Mackenzie Hollowitsch and Colleen and Morgan Roach. Danny and Heidi Roach, of Rowley, MA, and their children; Cassie and Mike Jette, Savannah Harris, Skylar, Ellis and Quinn Roach and his great granddaughter Olivia. He is furthered survived by his son-in-law Mark Roach of Eau Claire, his brother William of Green Bay, his sister-in-law Suzanne Causier of Eau Claire and his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Donald and Gloria Barnes of Augusta, and by his many nieces, nephews and close friends. Art is preceded in death by his wife Zeta, his parents, brother Joseph and Virginia Roach, sister Mary and James O'Brien, mother-in-law and father-in-law Ellis and Mary Barnes, and his brother-in-law Charles Barnes.
